Abstract

Dengue fever remains endemic in urban Vietnam, with vector control heavily reliant on community participation. This cross-sectional study assessed knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) related to dengue prevention among 1,200 residents in Ho Chi Minh City. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and household inspections. While 92% of participants correctly identified mosquitoes as the dengue vector, only 56% practiced regular source reduction, and 48% used protective measures consistently. Younger residents and those with higher education levels had better KAP scores (p < 0.05). Observational data revealed that 62% of households had potential mosquito breeding sites. Barriers included limited time, lack of resources, and misconceptions about dengue transmission. The study highlights the need for targeted health education campaigns, community mobilization, and resource provision to improve preventive behaviors and reduce dengue transmission in densely populated urban areas.
