Impact of Telemedicine Services on Chronic Disease Management in Rural Communities

Isabella Rossi¹, David Kim², Fatima Zahra³

Abstract

Access to healthcare remains a significant barrier for rural populations, particularly for chronic disease management. This study evaluated the effectiveness of telemedicine services in improving disease monitoring, treatment adherence, and patient satisfaction among 600 patients with hypertension and diabetes. Teleconsultations, remote monitoring, and digital reminders were implemented over a six-month period. Results indicated significant improvements in medication adherence (increase of 38%, p<0.01), reductions in mean systolic blood pressure (-8 mmHg), and improved glycemic control (HbA1c reduction of 0.7%) compared to baseline. Patient satisfaction scores were high, highlighting the potential of telemedicine to enhance healthcare access and outcomes in underserved rural communities.
