Effectiveness of Community-Based Physical Activity Programs in Reducing Obesity Among Adults

Sanjay Mehta¹, Leila Nasser², John Osei³

Abstract

Physical inactivity is a major contributor to the global obesity epidemic. This quasi-experimental study evaluated the effectiveness of community-based physical activity interventions on BMI reduction and lifestyle changes in 600 adults over six months. Participants were enrolled in structured exercise sessions, walking groups, and health education workshops. Post-intervention analysis revealed a significant reduction in mean BMI (from 29.1 ± 3.8 to 27.6 ± 3.5, p<0.001) and increased adherence to regular physical activity. These results suggest that community-based programs are effective and feasible strategies to combat obesity and promote healthy lifestyles in adults.
